Data Dial Tone
Data Dial Tone
*As of November 2019, new Desktop Ports will be sold only in existing Data Dial Tone buildings. Service at new locations will be billed as Managed LAN.
Data Dial Tone provides secure TCP/IP connectivity for all systems within the OTS Data Centers as well as for end users in the Capitol Park and various other locations statewide. This service is the on-ramp to the network for PCs, printers, servers and other similar devices in these locations and includes wired/wireless connectivity from each end-station, through a shared Local Area Network infrastructure, to the Managed WAN backbone and the internet.
At user locations, a leased circuit from the site to the nearest OTS regional hub is included. Wireless LAN access is also included in the Data Dial Tone Desktop rate. The service is designed for building residents and guests and requires authentication for state users and identification/validation for guests. OTS will not provide "open" wireless access for the general public.
Data center ports are used for connecting servers inside the data centers. Desktop ports provide network access for user PCs, network printers or in-building servers. Legacy connections from an agency switch to the OTS switch infrastructure is limited and requires approval from OTS management.

OTS provides Data Dial Tone Services to state agencies in the Capitol Park Complex, in certain buildings within the downtown Baton Rouge as new buildings in the complex are opened for occupancy, as well as to other locations deemed part of the "LSI virtual campus".
Subscription to Data Dial Tone services requires that the agency participate in the state's private intranet. The state has created a private IP addressing scheme to be used by all participants. OTS assigns private and public IP address ranges to each agency. Agencies should be aware that conversion to the standard private addressing scheme is required in order to subscribe to Data Dial Tone services.
- Data Center and Building Connectivity
- Desktop Access is used in the buildings served by Data Dial Tone to provide 10/100/1000Mb access for PCs, network printers and in-building servers.
- Server Access is used in the shared Data Centers to provide 10/100/1000Mb access for agency private and public servers and mainframes.
- Network Access is used in buildings or data centers for connecting an agency access switch to the OTS/NS aggregation switches. Note: This type of access is only available in certain special cases. Most connectivity will now be provided via Desktop and Server Access.
- DMZ
- Publicly accessible servers are placed in a secured Demilitarized Zone and are protected by OTS-provided firewalls.
- An agency purchases a Server Access port for each device located within the DMZ and connects those public servers to the OTS/NS DMZ switch. In addition to the access port(s), the agency purchases bandwidth for its collective group of servers located within the DMZ network.
- VPN
- The Data Dial Tone VPN (Virtual Private Network) service provides secure, encrypted remote access to the Intranet from remote locations. This service is available for authorized individuals who need access to the network from remote locations as well as for small remote offices that need secure connectivity back to their agency's internal data center resources. Each agency maintains their own database of authorized users, and OTS/NS proxies to those agency authentication servers. An agency may purchase access for remote user groups based on number of simultaneous connections and/or for each of their remote offices on a bandwidth subscription basis.
- Wireless LAN
- OTS provides wireless LAN access in OTS managed Data Dial Tone buildings. The service is designed for building residents and authorized guests.
- OTS will not provide "open" wireless access for the general public. Agencies may be assigned one SSID for private agency access and one SSID for Internet Only access. Those with a business need for additional SSIDs should email doa-ots-lanet-spt@la.gov. Wireless access charges are based on the number of simultaneous users on a WLAN network (per SSID).

There are no fees for firewall changes.
For complex data dial tone changes OTS will prepare an estimate of charges for agency review prior to execution of work. See the add, deletes and changes workflow for more details.
