The mission of the Louisiana School for Math, Science, and the Arts (LSMSA), is to foster in its young scholars lifelong growth toward reaching individual potentials and toward finding places of work and service in a global society through the examination and exchange of ideas in a community of learners.
The goal of LSMSA is to strive to provide a challenging educational experience in a nurturing residential environment for all the students it was created to serve.
LSMSA has four programs: Administration/Support Services Program, Instructional Services Program, Residential Services Program, and the Telelearning Program.
The Louisiana School for Math, Science and the Arts (LSMSA), located in Natchitoches, is a unique educational institution, providing and advanced curriculum and program for academically- and artistically-motivated high school juniors and seniors from throughout the state of Louisiana. The school opened and formally began operation in the fall semester of 1983.
This agency's recommended appropriation does not include any funds for short-term debt.
In addition to the above recommended appropriation, $59,709 will be paid in Fiscal Year 1998-1999 for long-term debt incurred on behalf of this agency from the previous sale of bonds. Total long-term debt service payments for the state for Fiscal Year 1998-1999 are reflected in the Governor's Executive Budget Supporting Document in Non-Appropriated Requirements, Schedule 22-922.
This agency's recommended appropriation also includes the following amount by means of financing for payments on the unfunded accrued liability of the Louisiana State Employees' Retirement System and/or the Teachers' Retirement System in accordance with the provisions of Article X, Section 29 of the Constitution of Louisiana:
