The mission of the East Louisiana State Hospital is to operate a State Mental Health Hospital by providing mental health evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation services to adult citizens of Louisiana in a manner that will meet all legal and regulatory standards for patient care, accreditation, and licensing bodies.
The goal of the East Louisiana State Hospital is to evaluate and treat acute and chronic psychiatric conditions in a manner which returns the patient to the optimal level of functioning in the shortest time so that the patient can be integrated into society in the least restrictive setting.
The East Louisiana Hospital is located in Jackson and has three programs: Administration and Support, Patient Care, and Community Support.
This agency's recommended appropriation includes $9,800 for short-term debt, including Lease Purchase agreements.
In addition to the above recommended appropriation, $254,625 will be paid in Fiscal Year 1998-1999 for long-term debt incurred on behalf of this agency from the previous sale of bonds. Total long-term debt payments for the state for Fiscal Year 1998-1999 are reflected in the Governor's Executive Budget Supporting Document in Non-Appropriated Requirements, Schedule 22- 922.
This agency's recommended appropriation also includes the following amount by means of financing for payments on the unfunded accrued liability of the Louisiana State Employees' Retirement System in accordance with the provisions of Article X, Section 29 of the Constitution of Louisiana:
