The Louisiana State Board of Cosmetology regulates the cosmetology industry of Louisiana. The State Board of Cosmetology also updates current policies and procedures and implements new programs to reflect changes in the cosmetology industry. The cosmetology industry is one of the largest segments of the personal service sector of the Louisiana economy, which is composed of 34,772 members in the cosmetology profession. These cosmetologists are operating out of 7,672 beauty salons throughout the state and there are 59 schools which had an enrollment of 3,332 students last year.
The Louisiana State Board of Cosmetology has only one program, State Board of Cosmetology. Therefore, the mission and goals of the Louisiana State Board of Cosmetology are the same as those for the State Board of Cosmetology Program in the program description that follows.
This agency's recommended appropriation does not include any funds for short-term debt.
This agency does not have any long-term debt for Fiscal Year 1998-1999.
This agency's recommended appropriation also includes the following amount by means of financing for payments on the unfunded accrued liability of the Louisiana State Employees' Retirement System in accordance with the provisions of Article X, Section 29 of the Constitution of Louisiana:
