This agency provides for a comprehensive library system for the state through the maintenance of a core collection of materials for use by state government and for loan to parish libraries. Special efforts are made to provide library materials to blind, handicapped, and institutionalized individuals. The Office of the State Library of Louisiana has only one program, Library Services. Therefore the mission and goals of the Office of the State Library are the same as those listed for the Library Services program description that follows.
This agency's recommended appropriation does not include any funds for short-term debt.
In addition to the above recommended appropriation, $116,631 will be paid in Fiscal Year 1998-1999 for long-term debt incurred on behalf of this agency from the previous sale of bonds. Total long-term debt payments for the state for Fiscal Year 1998-1999 are reflected in the Governor's Executive Budget Supporting Document in Non-Appropriated Requirements, Schedule 22-922.
