The mission of the Senior Centers Program is to provide facilities where older persons in each parish can receive supportive services and participate in activities that foster their independence, enhance their dignity, and encourage involvement in and with the community.
The goals of the Senior Centers Program are:
1. Have recommendations from any parish voluntary council on aging approved by the Office of Elderly Affairs before the creation of any new state-funded senior center in the state.
2. Have recommendations from a parish voluntary council on aging and approval by the Office of Elderly Affairs based on the need fro a new facility and whether the proposed facility will meet the criteria for a senior center as defined in the policies and regulations established by the Office of Elderly Affairs.
OBJECTIVES AND PERFORMANCE INDICATORS
1. In FY 1998-99, the Senior Centers Program will establish baseline data to enable the program to develop and publish proposed standards for state-funded senior centers that reflect effective and efficient usage of state funds allocated for the operation of senior centers in Louisiana.

2. In FY 1998-99, the Senior Centers Program will establish baseline data to enable the program to submit written reports, containing findings and comments of the Office of Elderly Affairs, to the legislature relative to all requests for new state-funded centers recommended by parish voluntary councils on aging.
