Program B: Instruction

Program Authorization: R.S. 17:1941-1958; PL 98-199

This program provides special education and related services to exceptional children who are enrolled in state-operated facilities in the Department of Health and Hospitals and the Department of Public Safety and Corrections. Special School District No. 1 (SSD#1) is considered an intermediate educational unit of the state, acting on behalf of the state in providing a free appropriate public education to all exceptional children who reside in state operated facilities. Student enrollment for SSD#1 is about 778 students with a cost per student of $18,766.
