Special School District No. 1 (SSD #1) is an educational service agency which functions as a local school system for the purpose of providing special education and related services to exceptional children, ages three through 21, enrolled in state-operated facilities for individuals with mental disabilities, emotional/behavioral disorders, or who have been adjudicated/incarcerated.
The mission of Special School District No. 1 is to provide a free appropriate public education for eligible exceptional students who have been admitted to state-operated programs for treatment, habilitation, and care, or who have been placed by a court order.
The goal of Special School District No. 1 is to ensure that eligible students will receive instruction and services to enable them to participate in meaningful life activities.
The Special School District No. 1 has two programs: Administration and Instruction.
This agency's recommended appropriation does not include any funds for short-term debt.
This agency does not have any long-term debt for Fiscal Year 1999-2000.
This agency's recommended appropriation also includes the following amount by means of financing for payments on the unfunded accrued liability of the Louisiana State Employees' Retirement System and the Teachers' Retirement System in accordance with the provisions of Article X, Section 29 of the Constitution of Louisiana:
