The Office of the Lieutenant Governor is under the direction of the Lieutenant Governor, who is authorized under Article IV, Sec. 6, of the Louisiana Constitution of 1974 to exercise the powers delegated to her by the Governor. The Office of the Lieutenant Governor has two programs: Administration and Grants. The mission and goals of the Office of the Lieutenant Governor are reflected in missions and goals of these programs.
The mission of the Office of the Lieutenant Governor is to serve as governor in the event of a vacancy in the Office of the Governor or the inability of the governor to act as such; to serve as commissioner and exercise authority over the Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism; and to administer grants and appropriations for the Office of Lieutenant Governor Grants Program.
The goals of the Office of the Lieutenant Governor are:
1. To be prepared to serve as governor in the event of a vacancy of the Office of the Governor or the inability of the governor to act as such.
2. To expand the awareness of and access to the programs of the Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism.
3. To significantly increase the ability of Louisiana communities to address critical needs and to substantially enhance service learning opportunities among young people.
The Office of the Lieutenant Governor has two programs: Administrative and Grants.
This agency's recommended appropriation does not include any funds for short-term debt.
This agency does not have any long-term debt for Fiscal Year 1999-2000.
This agency's recommended appropriation also includes the following amount by means of financing for payments on the unfunded accrued liability of the Louisiana State Employees' Retirement System in accordance with the provisions of Article X, Section 29 of the Constitution of Louisiana:
