Your LAN ID is required to log on to your personal computer and to access network resources. This ID can contain up to 8 characters.
The format is "xyyyyyyz."
Where:
x = the first character of your first name
y = the first 6 characters of your last name
z = a number to differentiate two people with like ID's (if needed)
Examples:
Betty Jones = bjones
Betty Jackson = bjackso
Phillip Parker = pparker1
Paul Parker = pparker2
As the "owner" of your workstation, you will be provided full access to all files on your PC, and restricted access to designated network servers and printers you have been assigned to use. Individual workstation users cannot read the disk or share a printer with other workstations on the network. PC/LAN policy requires that data be stored on a server in order to provide shared access.
Generic user id's (such as "Student1") are not allowed for the following reasons:
- When used by more than one person, they provide no audit/accountability of actions performed.
- They compromise security and "custom" settings on individual PCs.
The Section Coordinator should notify the Help Desk at 342-4730 when the employees terminate.
