Frequently Asked Questions

Please feel free to e-mail us if you have a question that is not covered here.

What is LPAA and what does it stand for?
Louisiana Property Assistance Agency (LPAA) was designated by the Commissioner of Administration to provide for the accountability of the states moveable property; to ensure that all state agencies comply with the State Property Control and Fleet Management Regulations; to provide a savings and return on state and federal monies through reutilization of surplus property; and tracking the use of state fleet vehicles.

How do I become a Preference Buyer and purchase property directly from LPAA?

Preference Buyers must be an educational, charitable, or religious non-profit organization. Other preference buyers include political subdivisions of the State of Louisiana; other governmental agencies; private elementary, secondary, or proprietary schools; and independent colleges or universities. All requests for approval to purchase property must be submitted in writing on letterhead and accompanied with a Preference Buyer Application and signed Purchase Agreement. To obtain more information please visit our Preference Buyer page or call (225) 342-6853.

Are LPAA auctions open to the public?

Yes. Auctions are held on the second Saturday of each month and are open to the general public. For information on how to register and bid, please visit the auction page by clicking here or contacting the Auction Department at (225) 342-6854.

How do I get information sent to me about upcoming auctions?
There are two ways to get auction information. By signing yourself up for an electronic notification you will receive emails regarding auction dates, special auctions, and informing you that the auction brochure and booklet have been posted to the LPAA website. If you would like to receive the auction flyer in regular mail, call (225) 342-6849 and request to be added to the auction mailing list.
How will I know what items will be on upcoming auctions?
Auction pictures, vehicle pictures, and a list of vehicles are posted to the website as soon as the auction is set up. The week before each auction, the auction booklet is posted. This booklet lists a general description and the lot numbers for the next auction. A printed copy of this booklet is only available on auction day. We encourage our customers to print the booklet from the website and bring it to the auction viewing to have a greater idea on items they are interested in bidding on.
