Telecommunications Information Notice 09-07
Pending Changes to the New Orleans and
Southeastern Areas (Area Codes 504 and 985)
LINC Long Distance Telephone Service Effective June 1, 2009
April 16, 2009
As per the Office of Telecommunications Management's (OTM's) earlier TIN 09-02, modifications are under way that may change how LINC (Louisiana Intercity Network for Communications) long distance service interfaces with your local telephone service. These modifications will take place in the New Orleans and southeastern Louisiana areas (area codes 504 and 985) on June 1, 2009.
Effective June 1, 2009, Centrex users in the 504 and 985 area codes regions who have been dialing their long distance calls starting with "8 +", must begin dialing long distance calls as:
9 + 1 + area code + 7 digit telephone number
Those Centrex users will no longer use the "8 +" dialing plan beginning June 1, 2009.
For some PBX locations in this area, there may be a slight change in how long distance calls are dialed beginning on June 1, 2009. For these subscribers whose LINC long distance dialing will change, your local PBX administrator should provide you with the new dialing instructions prior to that date.
If your agency's LINC telephone dialing is affected by this change, please be sure that your agency's employees are notified of the change and effective date.
For any question about this change in long distance service, contact Jolene Ardoin at jolene.ardoin@la.gov or 225 342-8682.
