Metro Ethernet Services

September 16, 2007

The Office of Telecommunications Management (OTM) in its continuing effort to provide competitively bid services to our customers has contracted with additional vendors for Metro Ethernet services. The description of Metro Ethernet in the OTM Catalog of Services applies to the additional vendors contracted, as their offerings are primarily Basic and Dedicated service from 10Mbps to 100Mbps. Gigabit Ethernet is not offered by all of the additionally contracted vendors.

In addition to services already offered under the existing AT&T Metro Ethernet contract, service is now available from the following contracted Independent Metro Ethernet vendors in the following Louisiana metropolitan areas:

CenturyTel
  • Baton Rouge
  • Monroe
  • Ruston
  • Shreveport
Charter Communications
  • Hammond
  • Slidell
  • Thibodaux
Cox Communications
  • Baton Rouge
  • Lafayette
  • New Orleans
SuddenLink Communications
  • Alexandria
  • Lake Charles
  • Natchitoches
  • Ruston
Telcove
  • Baton Rouge
  • Hammond
  • Houma
  • Lafayette
  • Lake Charles
  • New Orleans
  • Slidell
  • Thibodaux

Metro Ethernet rates are determined by the specific service type and speed being requested and the distance of the service location from the provider's Ethernet node. Agencies interested in acquiring Metro Ethernet service should complete and submit an OTM-51 Metro Ethernet Agency Request for Vendor Quote Form to OTM. OTM will determine which vendors are able to provide the service in the requested area(s) and obtain and validate rate quotes from the available vendors. OTM will then provide the quote to the requesting agency. If multiple vendors respond to the request for quote, the requesting agency may choose from the responding vendors based on the agency's specific technical needs, timeline, or price.

To accept the quote and order the service, the agency should complete and submit to OTM either an OTM-38 AT&T Metro Ethernet Service Order Form or an OTM-83 Independent Metro Ethernet Order Form.

For more information about Metro Ethernet, refer to the OTM Catalog of Services.
