CALCULATOR
  Using Function Keys
You can use keyboard buttons for calculator function keys rather than using the Trackwheel on the BlackBerry calculator.  On the BlackBerry desktop, scroll to and click on Calculator.  Use the BlackBerry Buttons for the corresponding calculator function:

LOST OR STOLEN BLACKBERRY
If your BlackBerry handheld device is lost or stolen, the data stored on that device can be wirelessly deleted and your BlackBerry disabled by your BES administrator*. This action can prevent unauthorized device access or disclosure of data stored on your BlackBerry***. Data includes stored messages, contacts, and calendar information. Deleting these items on your BlackBerry will not affect this same data stored on your desktop PC.
Steps to take if your BlackBerry is lost or stolen:
  1. Contact your agency's BES administrator*.
  2. Report to that administrator that your BlackBerry has been lost or stolen.
  3. Request that a "Kill Handheld**" signal be sent to your lost BlackBerry by your BES administrator.
  4. Contact your agency's Telecommunications Coordinator to report the lost or stolen BlackBerry and request that the OTM Wireless Section be contacted to request a replacement device or to request "Cancellation of service" if the BlackBerry is not to be replaced.

* If you do not know who your BES (BlackBerry Enterprise Server) administrator is or do not have a BES administrator, contact the OTM Wireless section at 225 342-7735 or contact the OTM Help Desk at 225 342-7777.

**The "Kill Handheld" request will wirelessly disable a handheld and delete all stored information if or when the device and the antenna are turned on***. This process does not damage the BlackBerry device. If a "lost" BlackBerry is later recovered, it can be re-enabled by the BlackBerry user running the Application Loader using the BlackBerry Desktop Manager client software.

***It is strongly recommended that you use the password protection feature on your BlackBerry handheld device. This will help assure the integrity of your data in the event the device is lost and powered on with the Wireless off. Repeated attempts to hack your password will result in all of the stored data being deleted from your BlackBerry device.

You can jump to the Top or Bottom of your email list on the Message screen by pressing the "T" or "B" key.
OUTLOOK OUT OF THE OFFICE ASSISTANT
 

Turning On and Off
You can set your Outlook Out of Office Assistant from your BlackBerry handheld device. (NOTE:  Requires Outlook and BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES) version 4.0 )
    To turn on and set the Out of Office Assistant:
     
  1. From Home screen, highlight the "Message"icon and click twice with the trackwheel.
  2. Scroll and click on "Options"
  3. Scroll and click on "Email Settings"
  4. Scroll to "Use out of Office Reply", click and click on "Change Option"
  5. Scroll to "Yes" and click.
  6. Scroll down to box, type in Out of Office message, and click trackwheel.
  7. Scroll to "Save" option and click.
    To turn off the Out of Office Assistant:

Repeat above steps, except in step 5, scroll to "No" and click twice, and then skip to step 7.
SECURITY PASSWORD

 

Setting Security Password
You can set a security password to prevent unauthorized access to your BlackBerry and to prevent changes to your personal settings without having to first enter a password.
To set your password: 

 

 

 
  1. From the Home screen highlight the "Options" icon (Wrench).
  2. Scroll to "Security" and push in on the trackwheel twice.
  3. Scroll to "Change Option" and push in on the trackwheel.
  4. Highlight "Enable" and push in on the trackwheel.
  5. Push in on the trackwheel again, highlight "Save" and push in on the trackwheel.
  6. After the "New Password:" prompt, enter in a password of your choosing and push in on the trackwheel.  NOTE:  Passwords must be from 4 to 32 digits in length (alpha, numeric, or special characters) and may not contain characters that are the same (i.e. 1111 or aaaa).  Passwords are not case sensitive.
  7. After the "Verify New Password:" prompt, reenter the same new password and push in on the trackwheel.  The new password is now set.
  8. Return to Home screen.

Accessing Your Password Protected BlackBerry

Once your BlackBerry times out and locks, you must enter your password before using.

To access your BlackBerry when screen is locked and password protected:
  1. Press any key.
  2. BlackBerry will prompt you to "Enter Password".
  3. Key in your password and push in on the trackwheel.

Changing Security Password

You may change your BlackBerry security password at any time.

To change your security password:
  1. From the Home screen highlight the "Options" icon (Wrench).
  2. Scroll to "Security" and push in on the trackwheel twice.
  3. Scroll to "Change Password" and push in on the trackwheel.
  4. After the "Enter Password:" prompt, key in your existing password and push in on the trackwheel.
  5. After the "New Password:" prompt, key in your new password and push in on the trackwheel.
  6. After the "Verify New Password:" prompt, reenter the same new password and push  in on the trackwheel.  The new password is now set.
  7. Return to the Home screen.
